Harvest Time

It seems like these days one of the main things that most Christians think about is the rapture of the Church. We look around at the condition of the world and can only come to the conclusion that is time for our Lord’s return.

Matthew 9:37-38Then saith he unto His disciples, the harvest truly is plenteous but the laborers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the Harvest that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.

John 4:35 – Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest. Behold I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

I was reminded after reading these scriptures of a time a few years ago when my husband and I had a mini farm. We decided to plant a huge garden. I remember having our field plowed and then my husband so carefully laying off row after row with the tiller so we could plant our crop. How carefully we worked dropping just the right amount of seeds for the corn and beans. We planted all types of vegetables watering and caring for them. Then as they began to grow we chopped the weeds out and hoed and cultivated our crop. I would go through the garden asking God to bless each plant. We reaped such a harvest that even after canning and freezing we had vegetables to give to family and friends. We reaped a great harvest from our hard work.

In our scripture they were talking about the corn harvest. There is a time to seed, plant, fertilize, etc. The concept is the same as our little garden. You have to work while the time is right for the crops to grow. This is the time to work. The harvest truly is plenteous but the laborers are few.

Christ saw them as sheep having no shepherd. May we be moved with the same compassion? The situation is just as critical today as it was then. I heard a song a few years ago that said my house is full but my fields are empty. I wonder if we are faithful to our church, but are lacking in our witnessing outside the church. It’s Harvest Time. It is time for Jesus to come.

How encouraging it is to hear “The harvest is plenteous” but how disturbing to hear “The laborers are few”. Jesus is calling us today to reach the lost and I am afraid we are not always as diligent as we should be. Prayer is crucial. “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the Harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest”. Harvest day should be a busy day. What was their duty in this case? It was to pray. If there are no laborers the corn will rot in the fields. We must stay in touch with the throne of God. We must be in touch with His will and His word.

He asks us to participate in the harvest. He wants us to have a vision. Lift up your eyes. Proverbs 28:18“Where there is no vision the people perish”. Look at the fields.

He wants us to volunteer. Ezekiel 22:30 – And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. God is waiting for you and me to yield. Are we willing to say “Yes, Lord send me”. Gospel time is Harvest time. Galatians 6:7 – Be ye not deceived. God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Once saved is not always safe. You can’t do a “Little Sin” and think Its okay, now I will ask God to forgive me”. Harvest time is coming. You can’t just tell a lie and think you can ask God’s forgiveness and that’s the end of it. Harvest time is coming. You can’t just keep doing wrong, asking God’s forgiveness and think everything is okay. Harvest time is coming and you might be left behind. I wouldn’t miss the rapture for anything and I hope you wouldn’t either. We must be witnesses for Christ while there is still time. Harvest time is coming.
